RIPPOWAMEST. 2026
A NEW APPAREL BRAND — LAUNCHING SOON

The Stamford that was

Rippowam was this land's name before it became Stamford, Connecticut — and it's the name we're building around, one animal, one season, and one place at a time. A portion of every drop goes to protecting what's on the shirt.

RIPPOWAM — THE SIWANOY NAME FOR THIS LAND, BEFORE IT BECAME STAMFORD, CT · 1640

The Land

01 — ORIGIN

In 1640, the land beneath what's now Stamford, Connecticut was known as Rippowam — the name given to it by the Siwanoy, the people who lived here first, fished its river, and hunted the animals still native to this ground today. Even the first English settlers kept the name at first — they organized as "The Rippowam Company" before founding the town. In 1642, the settlement itself was renamed Stamford. The river never was — it's still called the Rippowam today, running straight through the middle of the city.

We brought the name back. Not because we're from here — we're not. But sometimes you find a place that finds you back. The seasons that actually mean something. The wildlife you catch glimpses of if you slow down. The Stamford Nature Center, the pinetum in October, fireflies lighting up the evening in summer. It's a feeling worth protecting, and worth doing whatever we can to make sure it's still here for the people and wildlife that come after us.

Each seasonal drop features a single species, chosen because it deserves a voice. A portion of every sale goes directly to a conservation group working to protect that animal, named and linked on the product page — not a vague donation, a specific one.

"We can't fix everything. But we can leave it a little better than we found it. That's enough to start."

How It Works

02 — PROCESS
01 / COMMISSION

One animal, one artist

Each seasonal drop centers on a single species, brought to life by an independent illustrator working in graphite or fine linework — never AI-generated, never a stock asset.

02 / CRAFT

A small, signed run

Garments are produced in limited quantity. A handful from each drop are hand-signed and numbered by the artist — the rest are made with the same care, unsigned.

03 / CONSERVE

Proceeds, put to work

5% of every sale goes directly to a conservation partner working to protect that drop's featured species — named and linked on every product page.

The First Drop

Pen-and-ink autumn scene: an apple tree heavy with red fruit leans over a lake, a wooden canoe propped against its trunk, fallen leaves across the bank, wooded hills beyond, and a spotted wild cat drinking at the far shore.
DROP 01 — SCENE BY SAAD
01 — THE SCENE

The first drop starts here.

One place, one season, one animal. The scene is Saad's — drawn for this drop, and the only part of it we're showing for now.

The animal it's built around, the group we're donating to, and the story behind the artist all follow when the drop is announced.

Everything you need is already in the picture. Look closely.
